A game about collecting the real cats you meet. You photograph a cat that is in front of you, it is verified as a live cat, you catch it with a short timing moment, and it becomes a trading card in your album, cut from your own photograph.

Yes, that is the whole game. The picture does more than start a catch: the cat on your card is the one in your photograph, cut out of its background. Nothing draws it and nothing swaps it for a generated cat.

Yes. That is the entire game. Nothing is spawned on a map and there is nothing to catch indoors unless there is a cat indoors with you.

A living cat in front of your camera. Screens, printouts, posters, calendars, statues and plush toys are refused on purpose, and there is no way to import a photograph from your gallery.

The app never asks you to touch, chase, feed or corner an animal. You photograph a cat from where you are standing. Please keep it that way: watch the traffic, stay out of gardens that are not yours, and let a cat that walks away walk away.

For the catch, yes, because the photograph is verified by a service. Your album, cards and map work offline once they are on your phone.

No. There is no password anywhere in PoCats. Tap Continue as guest and you are playing at once, with no email asked for. Continue with Google, or Sign in with Apple on iPhone, is optional: it keeps your album if you change phones.

You hold out a snack can and a cat creeps toward it. Let go the moment its nose touches the tin. Too early and you spooked it, too late and it loses interest. There is a playable version here.

A release in the dead centre of the window, which gives the best rarity odds a throw can have. Anywhere else inside the window is stamped Nice and still catches the cat.

Nothing is spent. Verification happens before the catch begins, so a refusal costs you a photograph and not a snack can. Move a little, get more of the cat in frame, and try again.

No. Its face and some of its body is plenty. A cat half behind a bin is still a cat.

The energy for a throw. One per catch, a free bag of eight, and one back every four hours. They also arrive with daily rewards, fall out of yarn balls, and trade for coins in the shop.

Every catch leaves a ball behind, and walking unwinds it. Roughly 2,000 steps for a small ball and 8,000 for a great big one. A fully unwound ball opens for snack cans and coins.

Your release timing, how confident the scan was, and whether you were standing somewhere you had caught a cat before. The tiers are Everyday, Uncommon, Rare and Legendary. Nothing you can buy affects any of it.

PoCats asks you rather than deciding for you. Say yes and the sighting joins that cat’s record with a count of how many times you have met.

A light friendly scrap between cats you have caught, currently in beta. It is cartoon cats batting at each other, nobody gets hurt, and it pays out nothing while it is in beta.

They are sent to the verification service to confirm a live cat and to cut the cat out of the background. They are never posted publicly and never shown to other players. The only image that leaves deliberately is the share card, when you tap share.

Only roughly, and only if you leave sharing on. A sighting is rounded to about a kilometre before it leaves your phone and it disappears from the community map after 72 hours. Switch sharing off in Settings and you keep your own private map.

The camera is the game. Location stamps a card with where you met the cat, powers your own map, and slightly improves the odds when you return to a place you have caught a cat before. You can play with location off.

Yes, for two narrow jobs, and not for the one people usually mean by the question. When you take a catch photo it is sent to a vision model that answers a single question: is this a genuine live cat, or a photograph of a screen, a poster or a printout. Then the cat is separated from its background, on your own phone where the phone can do it and by a background-removal service where it cannot.

What no model does is draw the cat. The animal on your card is your photograph with the background taken away, not a generated picture of a cat that resembles the one you met. That is the difference the whole app rests on. Your photos are never shown to other players and never posted publicly, and the privacy policy names every service involved and what each one keeps.
