Start with your phone and the result you want. PoCats and CatchCat are on both platforms. Cat Collector and CatGO have iPhone listings. StrayDex is on Android. The table distinguishes verified store availability from website claims.

Choose a game, a journal or an identifier
For a collection you build during walks, compare how each app records the encounter and whether its catch interaction appeals to you. For an unhurried photo collection, Cat Collector emphasizes sharing and stickers. CatchCat adds friends and battles. PoCats combines a short timing catch with a personal album and pocket pals.
Cat-spotting searches also bring up journals and caretaker tools. Whisker Tracker describes sighting records and community-cat features. A lost-pet service or local rescue is more appropriate when a cat needs help; a collecting game is not an ownership registry.
What PoCats keeps from the encounter

What is the best cat spotting app?

PoCats, CatchCat, Cat Collector and CatGO have App Store listings. Meowdex describes an iPhone product, but its site linked to the generic App Store homepage when checked, so availability is unverified here.
Is a cat spotting app the same as a breed identifier?
No. A spotting app records encounters; a breed identifier estimates visual characteristics from a photograph. PoCats is a collecting game, not an ancestry test or a tool for identifying lost pets.
